Why you should never give out any of your work for free.

A short one for today.

I used to believe a good way to promote your work is to give out some freebies once in a while.

I will never give away any of my work for free, ever again.

What changed my mind was an experience I had about this time a year ago, which I call the ‘cherry on the cake’.

I had given out free paperbacks of Tales from Alrais during the spark of the Covid pandemic in our country. They were completely free – there was no catch to it. Within 1 or 2 days about a handful of followers or not had registered their names for a free copy. In the following week, I handed them the paperbacks by delivering them myself and free of charge.

And when they kept thanking me for being kind, considerate, and some also called me a visionary – all I did was asking them how nice it would be if they shared a small image of the paperback on their social-media and tagged my Author Page or this blog-site. I didn’t force it, I didn’t push it… I just said that it would be nice and appreciated.

Out of about fifteen people, only one did.
